Mike's Military Bio COLONEL MICHAEL W. LEMONS
Colonel Lemons was born March 14, 1948, in Springfield, Missouri and graduated from Buffalo High School, Buffalo, Missouri in 1966. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State College in 1970. In 1978, Colonel Lemons received his Master of Science Degree in Computer Science from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne Florida. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. Colonel Lemons received his commission through the Reserve Officers Training Corps and entered the Army in 1970. He attended the Signal Officers Basic course and the Digital Telephone Communications Officers course prior to being assigned as the Battalion Communications Officer for the 2/27 Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany in February, 1971. After serving in Germany for three years, Colonel Lemons was assigned to the Joint Communications Support Element, MacDill, AFB, Florida in 1974 where he served as the Detachment Commander for the Air Forces and Land Forces detachments. During this assignment, Colonel Lemons also served as the officer in Charge of the Joint Airborne Communications Center/Command Post (JACKPOT) and was on both non-crewmember flight status and jump status throughout this assignment. Following graduation from the Signal Officers Advanced Course and civilian schooling, Colonel Lemons was assigned to the Staff and Faculty of the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY where he was Chief of the Systems Software Support Office, Directorate of Automation and Audiovisual Services. After completing this tour, he was assigned to the 93rd Signal Brigade, VII Corps, Ludwigsberg, Germany in 1982 as a systems engineering and plans officer. In December 1982, Colonel Lemons was assigned to the 34th Signal Battalion, Ludwigsberg, Germany where he served in consecutive positions as the Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer. Upon his return from overseas in 1985, Colonel Lemons was assigned as the Executive Officer for the Software Development Center-Huachuca, Fort Huachuca, Arizona. In 1986, he was transferred to the 11th Signal Brigade, Fort Huachuca where he was the Brigade Engineering officer and in June, 1987, Colonel Lemons took command of the 86th Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade. During his time in command, the 86th Signal Battalion was converted to the Armys only Defense Communications Agency, Central Area signal battalion with the mission of extending the Defense Communications System into the USCENTCOM area of operations. From 1989 through July, 1992, Colonel Lemons served as a Deputy Program Manager for the NATO Communications and Information Systems Agency, U.S. Delegation to NATO, Brussels, Belgium. Upon his return from Belgium, he was assigned as the Chief of the Command Information Systems Support Division, Command and Control Communications and Computer Systems Directorate, United States Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base (AFB), Florida. He assumed his duties as Director, US Army Computer Science School in August 1996. Colonel Lemons awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and the Senior Parachutist Badge. Colonel Lemons has served a total of 10 years in joint duty assignments. He was promoted to colonel with a date of rank of May 1, 1993. Colonel Lemons is married to the former Sherry Cooper of Charity, Missouri. They have three daughters, Suzanne, Kristine and Natalie, and two sons, Gregory and Jason.
